Infiltration using a rain garden or swale. Getting rain water back into the soil to recharge aquifers is vitally important. Create one away from your house in a low spot. I have used plants native to Eastern USA like Rudbeckias, Joe Pye weed, Lobelia, Asters, Milkweed, Amsonia, Phlox, and more. The plants were planted using small plug plants and seeds. They are now fully grown and their strong roots hold up the banks either side of the channel that leads to the hollow depression itself. Sometimes there is water in here and sometimes not. This garden hums with pollinators and is alive with birds eating seeds from the natural bird feeder - aka seed heads. I designed this garden to reduce flooding in my neighbor’s downstream garden and it has worked. Try this at your house. Infiltration for the win!!!

Lilium formosanum nanum paired with Euphorbia corollata and Agastache by our larger pong - that we euphemistically call a lake! Beginning of August beautiful combination. Not normally watered but we had over 2 inches of rain last night. See last photo on the reel.
