Northview Gardens Moon Beds – Poppy Parade at last.
I dreamt about this day in January whilst nodding off by the fireside; a sparkly June morning and poppies in full bloom. We sprinkled tiny poppy seeds onto the melting snow and waited. The reward is a plethora of poppy blooms in shades of pink, coral, red and white. Petals as translucent and fragile as bone china wobble atop hairy stems. Pollen stuffed stamens buzz with hoverflies and honey bees.
From bud to beauty, to pepperpot seedpod- all within a day. Poppies are the ultimate definition of ephemeral. I grow poppies, not because I like to make gardening difficult for myself, but because it reminds me to celebrate today and this moment, and it gives me something to dream about.
